Selective Mutism
Selective Mutism is often misunderstood. It is not defiance or shyness, but an anxiety-based difficulty with speaking in specific situations. Children, and sometimes teens or adults, with Selective Mutism are often able to speak comfortably at home but may find their voice freezes in school, social settings, or unfamiliar environments.

At Full Spectrum Counseling, we approach Selective Mutism with patience, warmth, and collaboration. We work at your child’s pace, using play and relationship to gently reduce anxiety and support communication. Progress happens gradually and respectfully, never through pressure.
Parents, caregivers, and teachers are important parts of the process. We help the entire support system understand how to create an atmosphere of safety and encouragement so that speaking becomes easier and more natural.

Jared also provides professional trainings on Selective Mutism, focusing on how play therapy and relationship-based interventions can help children find their voice and regain confidence in social connections.
